This story was a great love affair. Here, the story starts right where the original begins, at the Meryton assembly, with Elizabeth and Darcy's first meeting. The famous 'tolerable' insult is still muttered, and Elizabeth hears it well, but although she is hurt, she recognizes how uncomfortable he is at the ball. She is just a bit more discerning, and some others too, and the question is how that changes the story. It changes it.
Passion and Persistence
- my third Pride and Prejudice variation
This variation was a long time in the making. The idea had been with me for a long time. They always meet by chance... Well, in this novel, Darcy does not give up after Hunsford. The rejection, though, hurt him; he realized that she and he are meant for each other. He takes Netherfield from Bingley and moves in...

Whispers of the Heart
After writing several variations inspired by Pride and Prejudice, I felt an undeniable pull toward something both familiar and entirely new.
Jane Austen's world has long been my literary home. Through my variations, I explored alternative paths, emotional nuances, and the "what-ifs" hidden between her lines. Yet over time, a quiet question began to surface:
What if I stepped beyond adaptation and created a story wholly my own – while remaining true to the elegance and emotional depth I cherish?
My original novel was born from that question.

I did not wish to modernise the Regency era or reshape it into something unrecognisable. Instead, I wanted to remain within its social structures, its silences, its constraints – and explore what happens when a young woman learns to think independently within them.
While my previous works reimagined familiar characters, this new story allowed me to create Catherine Berrington and Lord Nevill – characters shaped entirely by my own imagination. Their struggles are not borrowed. Their misunderstandings are not inherited. Their love must be earned from the first glance to the final confession.
Writing an original Regency novel allowed me to:
– Explore emotional restraint and vulnerability in new ways
– Question societal expectations without imposing modern attitudes
– Craft layered family dynamics free from canonical limitations
– Build romantic tension without the safety of a known ending
In many ways, this step felt more daring than writing variations. There was no beloved framework to lean upon – only voice, instinct, and devotion to the period I adore.
This novel is still deeply Regency in spirit: introspective, restrained, socially observant, and driven by character rather than spectacle. But it is mine – entirely mine.
And that, perhaps, is the greatest adventure of all.
